Close Interval Potential Survey (CIPS) is an electrolytic direct current (DC) potential measurement made at regular intervals to assess the level of cathodic protection on buried pipelines. The potential profile includes both “on” and “off” potentials, and interpretation of the results can include the identification of coating defects. This survey procedure can also be used to identify areas affected by interaction.
