Pipeline Current Mapper (PCM)

A Pipeline Current Mapper (PCM) is a corrosion monitoring type of equipment used to perform alternating current coating attenuation surveys. Results from this survey are then used to prevent pipeline corrosion.

A pipeline current mapper operates by measuring the electric current characteristics of a given section of an above ground or underground pipe. The electric current over the entire length of the pipe is measured and charted. This useful information can be used to prevent corrosion

Advantages

  • An accurate method of evaluating and mapping cathodic protection current losses.
  • The current magnitude and direction measurements are made above the surface without the need for connections to the ground or pipe.
  • Near dc signal mirrors closely the CP current.
  • For use in all weather and ground conditions.
  • One person operation.
  • Indication of fault magnitude, hence avoiding unnecessary and costly excavations.
  • The high-powered transmitter enables analysis from one injection point to the next.
  • The transmitter can be powered from 220V or batteries and is therefore flexible.
  • Integral data logging.
  • USB interface allows uploading of data for graphical representation of records on site.
  • GPS compatibility.
  • An A-Frame (ACVG) accessory for accurately pinpointing and sizing coating defects.
